How to reach Prasanthi Nilayam
One hundred and fifty kilometres north of Bengaluru, the Chitravathi valley opens to receive all who come. Devotees arrive from across India and every continent — by air, by rail, by road.
By AirKempegowda International (BLR), Bengaluru — 150 km, 3 hours. The best option for most travellers, international or domestic. Direct cab or KSRTC bus from the airport.
By RoadAbout 3 hours from Bengaluru on National Highway 44. APSRTC and KSRTC run daily buses from Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai. From Hyderabad the drive is roughly 470 km. The final stretch through the Chitravathi valley is scenic.
By TrainSri Sathya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam station (SSPN) is 8 km from the ashram; autos and buses connect them regularly. Direct trains run from Bengaluru, Secunderabad and Visakhapatnam. For other cities, Dharmavaram Junction (40 km) is the nearest major interchange.

Before you arrive
A place of sadhana
A little preparation keeps your arrival as peaceful as your stay.
Kindly do
- Dress to the ankles. Men: full trousers and shirt. Women: salwar-kameez or saree with a dupatta covering the front.
- Remove footwear before entering the Mandir and Sai Kulwant Hall.
- Carry original photo ID. Aadhaar for Indian citizens, passport for overseas visitors.
- Arrive before 8 PM. Canteens, counters and all services close at that time.
- Move in silence at the Mandir. Loud conversation is not permitted.
- Keep the premises clean. Bins are provided throughout the ashram.
Kindly avoid
- No cameras, mobile phones or any recording devices inside Sai Kulwant Hall or the Mandir.
- No shorts, sleeveless shirts, tight or see-through clothing for any visitor.
- No non-vegetarian food, eggs, tobacco or alcohol anywhere on campus.
- No visits between men's and women's residential blocks.
- No photography where signage restricts it. Restrictions are clearly marked.
- No movement in residential areas after 9 PM.
Travelling alone? Walk-in guests can request a dormitory bed directly at the accommodation counter — no advance booking needed. Bring your photo ID.

More than a place to stay
Bhagawan built a township of service around the Mandir: free education, free healthcare, museums and a planetarium. All open to visitors.
Chaitanya Jyoti MuseumOpened in 2000 to mark Bhagawan's 75th year. Seven galleries trace his life through multimedia exhibits: his childhood on the Chitravathi, the first miracles, the vast humanitarian works. Architecturally striking, with Chinese pagoda roofs, Moorish domes and Gothic arches under one roof.
9:30 AM to 12 PM and 3 PM to 5:30 PM. Closed Mondays.
Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher LearningFounded 1981. Degree, postgraduate and doctoral programmes with no cost to students: tuition, boarding, books and uniforms are all free. Two campuses, one in Prasanthi Nilayam and one in Whitefield, Bengaluru.
Campus viewable from the road. 10 AM to 11:30 AM for visitors.
Super Speciality HospitalOpened 1991. Cardiology, urology, ophthalmology and orthopaedics, all free of charge. No patient has ever received a bill. Over two million people have been treated here across three decades.
Visitors: 12 Noon to 2 PM, Monday to Saturday.
Hill View StadiumA large open-air arena carved into the boulder hillside above the ashram. Hosts Bhagawan's birthday celebrations on 23 November and annual sports and cultural events. The grounds hold statues of Hanuman, Krishna, Jesus Christ, Zoroaster and Buddha, placed together as a statement of unity among all faiths.

Space Theatre and PlanetariumA geodesic dome with a Spitz 512 projector mapping 4,054 stars, constellations and nebulae as seen from Puttaparthi. Shows available in multiple languages. Seating for 150; advance letter needed for special group screenings.
Daily show at 10:30 AM. Closed Wednesdays.
Chitravathi RiverThe river that ran through Bhagawan's childhood, winding between the Puttaparthi hills on wide sandy banks. A quiet place for an early walk. The same banks where Swami materialised objects from sand as a young boy.
Open all day. Best at dawn and dusk.

About Prasanthi Nilayam
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba
Born Ratnakaram Sathyanarayana Raju on 23 November 1926 in Puttaparthi, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba declared his mission at fourteen: the spiritual regeneration of humanity through truth, right conduct, peace, love and nonviolence. He put it simply: Love is God, God is Love. My life is my message.
He established the ashram in 1948. Around it grew free hospitals that have treated more than two million patients without charging anyone, a university where tuition and boarding are entirely free, and a drinking-water project that reached over a million people in drought-prone Anantapur district. The Sri Sathya Sai International Organisation now operates in 114 countries.
Bhagawan entered Mahasamadhi on 24 April 2011, aged 84. He is buried in Sai Kulwant Hall, in the same hall where he spent thousands of hours among devotees. The ashram continues under the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust.
